IKOYI NEIGHBORHOOD SPOTLIGHT
IKOYI is located in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State; Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA). The area is bordered by the Lagos Lagoon on all sides and connected by bridges. Ikoyi is a high-end neighbourhood occupied by wealthy entrepreneurs, socialites, top company executives, and the likes. Many foreign expatriate staff working with oil companies and large International Organisations are given houses/apartments in Ikoyi to live in whilst working in Nigeria.
The North-Eastern Part of Ikoyi is the affluent neighbourhood where there are lots of high-rise luxury apartment buildings like The Address Homes, The Wells Carlton Hotels & Apartments, Lagoon View Gardens, Foreshore Towers and estates like Banana Island, Park View estate, Abacha estate, Osbourne Foreshore estate etc. This part of Ikoyi is very clean, street roads are interlocked, and there is no rowdiness. Elites and billionaires of Lagos reside here.
Awolowo Road is a popular street in Ikoyi, It is the street on the left-hand side of Falomo bridge/roundabout. Awolowo Road is a High Street, a focal point of businesses. Several corporations, privately-owned businesses including boutiques, cyber cafes, eateries/restaurants are all lined up on this street.
South-West of Ikoyi is Closer to Obalende, it is the crowded part of Ikoyi, streets are rough, congested and mostly dirty. Obalende is closer to Lagos Island; Dolphin Estate is located in between.
There are a lot of government parastatals/offices including the Ikoyi marriage registry, NDLEA, EFCC, Police stations, military cantonment, also privately-owned businesses, luxury hotels, eateries/restaurants, and International Organizations like Google Nigeria, United Nations subsidiary offices, British American Tobacco etc.
Ikoyi is generally a very nice place to live if one has the money. The Upper East Side is serene, clean, private and gives the feel of luxury.
