October 1: Ebonyi people will not sit at home – Umahi dares IPOB

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, said the people of the state will no sit at home on October 1 as ordered by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Nigeria will on Friday mark the 61st independence anniversary.

Umahi told reporters that the celebration was important to all citizens and Ebonyi in particular due to its creation on October 1, 1996.

“Anybody that says sit at home should know that Ebonyi people are not going to sit at home. I appeal to the entire South-East people to remember the danger of this order. Many people have been killed for no reason.

“Agitation is natural and fundamental, but nobody is justified to carry guns illegally to kill other people. We condemn in totality the insecurity in the South-East being instigated by our people.”

Umahi, however, condemned the killing of Dr Chike Akunyili in Anambra on Tuesday. The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied involvement.
