Rukuba attack: Plateau group tackles police over alleged ‘incitive’ statement

A local group in Jos, ‘The Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of Natives’, (PIDAN) has described a statement issued by the Plateau State Police Command in the wake of skirmishes that led to the killing of some passengers along Rukuba Road Jos on Saturday as incitive.

The statement which was signed by its President and Secretary-General, Prof. Madaki JKA and Comrade Nanle Gujor, expressed disappointment that the Police never reacted so swiftly through a statement when Irigwe people were being killed on daily basis.

The group said the statement was insensitive and capable of generating hatred amongst the diverse ethnic nationalities in the state in particular and Nigeria at large.

In this regard, PIDAN said, “We take exception to the statement credited to PPRO of the Police Command in Plateau State on the unfortunate incident at Rukuba Road where he was reported to have said that the killings and skirmishes at Rukuba Road were carried out by Irigwe Youths and their mourners.

PIDAN wondered how the Police came to the conclusion in few hours after the incident when it was difficult for them to unravel arsonists behind Miango and Bassa killers since two weeks ago.

According to the statement, the Rukuba skirmish was shrouded in confusion which the police ought to have done a thorough investigation before arriving at those who were responsible.

While commiserating with those who lost their loved ones, the group urged security agents to be proactive to stop the recurrence of crisis in Plateau State.
