The National Environmental Safety and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA, said it has sealed off eight factories in Osun State for violating environmental safety standards.
This is as residents were cautioned against throwing wastes into water channels to avoid flooding.
The agency said the penalty to be paid by the sealed factories and industries would depend on the nature of the offence committed by each.
Director-General of NESREA, Prof. Jauro Aliyu disclosed this on Wednesday to newsmen in Osogbo during the agency’s inspection and enforcement tour across some communities.

He said the ongoing inspection and enforcement exercise was being carried out across the 36 states of the Federation.
Aliyu who was represented by NESREA’s Director of Inspection and enforcement, Aremu Agaka, said the sealed factories failed to comply with the agency’s environmental regulations.
He said the factories failed in keeping their environment clean and the treatment of their hazardous wastes.
Aliyu explained that the agency had served the defaulters warning letters several times on the “untreated hazards within their localities, which is dangerous.’
